Professor Yunlong Sheng becomes a member emeritus of the COPL
It was on the occasion of the virtual Symposium which took place on January 11 that the director of the COPL, Sophie LaRochelle, awarded this distinction as a member emeritus to Mr. Sheng for his remarkable research activity in the field of optics. photonics.
Yunlong Sheng is a retired professor from the Department of Physics, Physical Engineering and Optics at Université Laval.
He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Science and Technology of China, Beijing, in 1964, a doctorate in optics in 1982 and a state doctor's degree in physics in 1986, both from the University of Franche-Comte, France.
He joined the Center for Optics, Photonics and Lasers (COPL) at Laval University in Quebec (Canada) in 1985.
During his successful career, Professor Sheng's research has focused on several topics, including nanooptics, optical trapping, optical signal processing, and object detection.
A recognized specialist in diffractive optics and image processing, Dr. Sheng was awarded the title of Optica Fellow in 2005 "For original contributions to phase mask diffractive optics, holography, wavelet transform, and optical signal processing and pattern recognition".
He has published over 300 technical papers and holds two international patents for inventing complex Bragg grating (FBG) fabrication techniques. He was leader of the Optica Technical group Holography and Diffractive Optics. Professor Sheng is also a Fellow of the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE).
